ABOUT THE DORSAL FIN

A dorsal fin is positioned along the back side of a mermaid tail and can dramatically change the silhouette and character of the finished design.

Dorsal fins are especially popular for shark-inspired and realistic marine-life-inspired mermaid tails, but they can also be incorporated into completely original fantasy designs.

The dorsal fin adds visual impact, dimension, and additional movement to the overall appearance of the tail in the water.

Each dorsal fin is:

A dorsal fin is one of the most recognizable features you can incorporate into a shark-inspired mermaid tail.

If your mermaid persona or custom tail is inspired by a tiger shark, mako shark, great white shark, whale shark, or another shark species, a dorsal fin can help create a more recognizable shark-like silhouette.

Your tail does not have to be an exact recreation of a real shark.

I can also use shark and marine-life inspiration as the starting point for an original design incorporating your own colors, markings, fluke, fins, and fantasy elements.

This allows you to see how the fin works with the rest of your tail design and approve the overall look before construction begins.

The dorsal fin is then crafted, painted, reinforced, and permanently integrated into the tail during the building process.

PRODUCTION TIMELINE

Your dorsal fin is created during the construction of your custom silicone mermaid tail.

Adding a dorsal fin does not normally add additional production time beyond your tail’s existing build schedule.
